This past weekend I went to a hot yoga class at a Lifetime Fitness that a good friend of mine had been asking to attend with him. He goes regularly and loves it so I said what the heck let’s do it, and showed up to Lifetime on a Saturday morning to meet him.
As I walked into the facility, it was massive with literally everything possible in the form of exercise and amenities. It reminded me of an upscale hotel without the rooms. Classes offered everywhere, big gym floor, even a full bar, and pool. My initial reaction was, damn there is so much to do here.
We made our way to the yoga class, which was great by the way, and then grabbed a coffee by the pool after and I couldn’t help but reflect on my experience and what I had realized about what Lifetime offers to their members and what I offer to my members.
Lifetime has so many options of exercise, but exercise alone doesn’t paint a full picture or change anything long term. One single day of exercise may make you feel really good (it is a huge dopamine hit!) but if your goal is long term health, that one single day doesn’t make a huge difference. It is a string of many days put together over a long period of time that really drives positive change.
So as the Lifetime was flashy with all of its offerings, one thing it lacked is the actually guidance to achieving long term health and fitness. Can some people achieve it anywhere? Ofcourse, but after having done this for a long time, the vast majority cannot achieve it alone. They need help.
See all of the exercise options and amenities at a place like Lifetime are pieces to the puzzle, not putting the puzzle together. What actually drives change in health and fitness is consistency. In order to drive consistency, you need accountability. And in order to be accountable, you need a specific plan.
That is where what I, and CrossFit Ares as a whole comes in. This of Lifetime like the bank, with a ton of different offers that fit many different people in the form of various accounts, cards, and products. Now picture us like the financial advisor that tells you exactly what to do with those accounts, cards, and products to best achieve a positive outcome.
I consider us health and wellness advisors. When you sign up with us, yes you get exercise. We like to do CrossFit because we know how effective it is. Could you do something else? Sure! But that is what we enjoy and what changed our lives, and it inherently drives movement mechanics to perfection. What we also provide is guidance when things get tough. Something injured? Going on vacation? Work gets busy? Just had a kid? Not feeling great? In a slump? Can’t get out of your own way?
We’ve heard and helped people through it all. That is what we do that others don’t. We don’t just provide a resource when things are good, but we more importantly guide you when things are challenging, because that is what will drive true change.
It doesn’t end with exercise. The 4 pillars to a long healthy life is exercise, nutrition, lifestyle, and relationships. When you start to go on this journey, people typically experience difficulty in all of them, and we help.
If you don’t show up to the gym for a little bit, we call you. We remind you why you started. We help you through those hurdles and obstacles, because that is the service we provide.
So to wrap it all up, truthfully anything in the exercise industry I am a fan of, because it gets people moving, but it won’t necessarily solve your problem. If you want your problem solved and someone in your corner every step of the way, just shoot us a message and we’d love to chat.
