Our name is CrossFit, but don’t let that scare you.

 At our core, we are just people who are ambassadors for healthier, more active and more meaningful living.

CrossFit is simply a mechanism (a very positive one) that gives us structure and an extended community to learn from and be a part of. It’s a part of a greater whole. We use fitness as a means to an end where “we don’t live to exercise… we exercise to live!” We support anyone at any age who calls on fitness to make a positive change in their life.

We value the pursuit of improved health, greater vibrancy, and the courage it takes to try new things in the face of all manner of fear and head trash that might work against you. We value movement and using our bodies in all manner of ways possible (and often in ways previously not believed to be possible!) We value being a safe haven where challenges are managed without judgement.

Lastly, we value banding together as a community to support and encourage and to help each other find an inner strength that is often absent when on our own.

It started over 10 years ago…

when owner, Craig Galloway, decided to take a break from corporate America to pursue his passion for fitness. 

The Competitive Athlete Training Zone (CATZ) first opened its doors in Wilmington, Massachusetts in October 2006, having trained thousands of youth and adult athletes since that time.

The decision to change names and affiliate with CrossFit was made after the CATZ franchise folded in 2013. Appreciating the power and value of community, the idea of plugging into an active, growing and passionate global community was too attractive to pass up… so that is when CrossFit ARES was born!

After a few challenging years, current General Manager, Amber Bryant, joined the team followed soon after by Head Coach, Ashton Munroe. This current dynamic duo has pumped all kinds of life back into CrossFit Ares and has us growing and thriving with only even greater positive trajectory for our future!

WE ARE NOT:

Meatheads

We love to lift heavy and get strong… but we are not a gym that caters only to people with big muscles who only care about making them bigger. Get in, spend a full, intense hour training hard and get out and get on with your life.

Fitness Elitists

We care about your results and we care about fitness in our own lives… but we don’t count every calorie, workout 3 hours a day or aspire to single digit body fat (well, maybe a little). We enjoy sweet treats, a frosty beverage and the occasional all you can eat buffet! We just do our best to use moderation, find ways of eating cleaner more often and let our efforts in the gym help balance our scales.

High Pressure

We are a community first. We ONLY want to add people who enhance our community dynamic. That is our strength. It’s what keeps us strong. It’s why we have members who have been with us for a decade. Pressure my close a sale or two, but the community is our top priority and it sells itself when the fit is right.

Judgemental

Starting a new program is difficult… for everyone!  We all start at different levels and we all have our stories. To us, nothing is more satisfying than taking a person with virtually no fitness background and seeing them master skill after skill.  The feeling of accomplishment is so strong, it builds up everyone and inspires even the fittest person in the room to want to work harder and accomplish more.

A Pickup Gym

We love our community and we enjoy socializing and hanging out with one another… but when it come time for training, we absolutely focused. The classes have structure and the work is challenging. An hour flies by and there is little to no down time for idle chit chat… not to mention, it’s pretty hard to flirt when you are out of breath!

Amber B.

Amber is the General Manager at CrossFit Ares. She has been in the fitness industry for about 11 years, and has managed personal training and group training companies throughout New England, all the way into California! She is AAAI and CPR/AED certified.

Where were you born?

I was born in South Windsor, Connecticut

How did you get involved in fitness?

I was slightly overweight in high school and a year after high school I knew I wanted to get into better shape. I joined a gym, hired a personal trainer, saw amazing results, and decided I loved it! I got certified about a year after that and put my skills to the test!

Who or what inspires you to keep pushing yourself?

Myself! I am constantly trying to be better than I was yesterday. Only I can get my butt out of the chair and get moving!

What is your favorite CrossFit workout?

Murph. The first time I did murph was last May and it tested my endurance and willpower to keep pushing through the pain.

What is your favorite HEALTHY meal?

My favorite healthy meal is any well seasoned chicken with Brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes.

What is your favorite CHEAT meal?

The best cheat meal for me is any type of sushi or Chinese food!

What is one fun fact about you?

I used to be a seamstress and still try to get in front of a sewing machine at least once a month.

What is your number one guilty pleasure?

Sugar! Anything with sugar.

What is your favorite quote?

Ashton M.

Ashton has a Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science and adult fitness. She has taught a variety of workout programs and received certifications through CATZ, Yoga and TRX. After living in Hong Kong for two years, she is back and emerging into CrossFit as well as CrossFit Ares Athletic Programs.

Where were you born?

I was born in Danvers, Massachusetts.

How did you get involved in fitness?

I played a lot of sports growing up and enjoyed running camps and coaching younger kids to teach them the importance of teamwork. I also loved seeing them grow into better athletes and young adults.

Who or what inspires you to keep pushing yourself?

What inspires me the most is seeing people move forward in their fitness journey and reach their own goals. Nothing makes me feel more excited about my job than watching someone grow more confidence, strong, and becoming a better version of themselves.

What is your favorite CrossFit workout?

My favorite CrossFit workout is probably this pas 17.5 in the open (2017). It consisted of 9 Thrusters and 30 Double Unders. I like how Thrusters are a total body exercise.

What is your favorite HEALTHY meal?

My favorite healthy meal is probably some type of fajita recipe with avocado. Basically anything with avocado!

What is your favorite CHEAT meal?

My favorite cheat meal is probably a big mountain of nachos!

What is one fun fact about you?

I lived in Hong Kong for 2 years and got my yoga certification in Bali, Indonesia.

What is your number one guilty pleasure?

My number one guilty pleasure is chocolate peanut butter ice cream from Richardson’s.

What is your favorite quote?

Adam O.

Adam has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics Education from Norwich University. He is certified in levels 1 and 2 CrossFit and CrossFit Mobility Trainer Certified. He is a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach and is CPR/AEDFirst Aid Adult & Pediatric certified.

Where were you born?

I was born right here in Wilmington, Massachusetts.

How did you get involved in fitness?

Growing up I would always play sports. I got into CrossFit when I was in college.

Who or what inspires you to keep pushing yourself?

Definitely working out in a group setting  pushes me to work harder. Of course look good and staying in shape are useful too! Overall, I know that when I’m with a group of people I am probably in better shape which drives me to work out harder the next day.

What is your favorite CrossFit workout?

To be completely honest I don’t have a favorite. They all suck.

What is your favorite HEALTHY meal?

Grilled chicken with rice and hot sauce.

What is your favorite CHEAT meal?

Anything that has buffalo chicken on it.

What is one fun fact about you?

You can often catch me listening to boy bands while working out.

What is your number one guilty pleasure?

Chinese food and Netflix.

Craig G.

Craig is the Owner of CrossFit Ares and has been an avid athlete his entire life. He wrestled at a division 1 level for Cornell University, received his Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist Credential (CSCS) from the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and received his CrossFit certification (CL-L1). Craig has coached thousands of athletes and adults over the years and remains dedicated to providing a brand of fitness that truly helps people of all ages lead more energized and active lives.

Where were you born?

Buffalo, New York … and yes, I am an avid Bills fan!

How did you get involved in fitness?

I grew up playing sports and went on to wrestle in college. Wrestlers tend to be pretty fitness oriented, so I just stayed a pretty avid fitness enthusiast for years, got certified as a personal trainer and ultimately opened my own athlete strength & conditioning franchise (CATZ) back in 2006.

Who or what inspires you to keep pushing yourself?

So many things. I have a sister with Cerebral Palsy, who can’t do the same things most of us take for granted. I think of her a lot. I also have two boys (Aidan – 10, Collin – 12) who I work hard to set a positive example for. Those are definitely the top “who”.

As far as for “what” inspires me to keep pushing myself, I just really enjoy feeling strong and energized and able to take on life. It really does fly by, so I work hard to try and get the most out of it.

Fajitas with lettuce wraps or pretty much any grilled fish.

I worked with Jillian Michaels on her show “Losing it with Jillian”.

The TV show Survivor. I would LOVE to be on it one day.
